Recollections of Arniston

Image
It is more that 13 years since our family enjoyed a lovely holiday in Arniston.  Originally a fishing community, the fisher's boats were a first impression of this beautiful seaside town.  It is also known as Waenhuiskrans and we therefore had to visit the famous cave.  The rocky coastline appeals to fishers and photographers, but you have to on your guard for the incoming tide. Colours of Cobh

Image
Cobh is being advertised as "Ireland's tidiest large town" as well as "one of the most beautiful small towns in Europe".  The cathedral, the many colourful buildings and an interesting seafront make this indeed a beautiful town to visit.  The kaleidoscope of buildings made a lasting impression on me. What a privilege it was to visit Cobh for a few days at the end of August 2022! Click on the images to open them. Steam train to Elgin

Image
Steam train engines are such stately machines. They impose admiration when they start to huff and puff.   They draw a romantic picture of a previous time. There are few things that can compete with them to create emotions of nostalgia.  These photos are of the popular steam train that takes people   on weekends  for a day trip from Cape Town to the market at Elgin. Cork City Goal

Image
Can a prison building be beautiful? It feels better to rather use descriptions like fascinating or stunning.  A visit to the Cork City Goal in August 2022 was firstly very informative. The story of the prison seemed to reflect the story of Ireland.   I was fascinated by the visual impact and I had to try and capture some of that. Such a place makes you think of all the stories that it witnessed. Click on the images to open them.
